Class Description
Raku is an exciting and hands-on process that involves pulling pieces of pottery from the kiln while they are still red hot, and cooling them in a special “saggar” or smoking box. This process can create decorative pots with unique and striking colors and patterns.
The “Making Day” mini-workshop gives current students and Open Studio members dedicated time to make pottery in preparation for a Raku Firing workshop. As a group we will discuss the basics of clay and glaze selection, and size and shape choice. You’ll be provided with up to a half bag of specialty raku clay that will yield the best results in the firing.
Completed raku pieces are intended for decorative use and are not suitable for food and drink.
Materials Needed
Students will be supplied with up to a half bag of specialty raku clay. All necessary tools and equipment will be provided.
Ceramics Open Studio
