About the Arts Center Lake Placid
The Arts Center is a vibrant, community-based organization serving artists and audiences through four programmatic pillars: Performing Arts, Arts Education, Visual Arts and Services to Artists & Organizations. We typically host over 100 events per month and enjoy a loyal, broad base of support from residents and visitors to our beautiful Adirondack region.
About the Role
We’re looking for a curious, capable, and arts-loving individual to join our team this summer in a highly flexible, hands-on role, designed to be shaped around the strengths of the right candidate. Around here, we’ve been calling this person a “Unicorn,” someone whose mix of skills and interests doesn’t fit neatly into a single job description, but instead adds value across many areas of our work. If you love the arts and enjoy wearing multiple hats, from working with patrons to supporting creative projects, we’d love to hear from you. Our ideal Administrative & Program Coordinator could be someone with at least 3-5 years of full-time work experience or a standout up-and-comer who can tell us about skills built from experiences like working at a summer camp, in the hospitality industry, or another field where people skills, quick-thinking and creativity were required.
What You’ll Do
Depending on your skills and interests, your work may include:
- Welcoming and assisting patrons; supporting front-of-house and customer service needs
- Assisting with marketing efforts, including basic graphic design and social media content
- Supporting performing arts programming (events, rehearsals, artist needs)
- Assisting with visual art installations and gallery preparation
- Providing general administrative and office support
- Pitching in wherever needed; this is a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Who You Are
- Passionate about the arts (performing, visual, education or any combination of the above)
- Friendly, reliable, and comfortable interacting with the public
- Organized and adaptable; you’re happy shifting between different types of tasks
- A self-starter who can take initiative but also works well as part of a team
- Confident when solving problems through new or unexpected challenges
- Uniquely capable in one or more of the following areas: design, production, admin, customer service, etc.
Required Skills
- Must be comfortable and competent working with a computer
- Must possess excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills
Bonus Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)
- Event or production experience
- Social media/content creation skills
- Basic tech or AV knowledge
Schedule & Compensation
- Hourly position – Dependent on experience, starting at $20/hr; schedule will vary based on programming needs
- Some evenings and weekends required
- Summer position with the possibility of extension for the right candidate
Why This Role is Unique
This is an opportunity to gain broad, hands-on experience inside a thriving arts nonprofit organization. You won’t be siloed; you’ll be part of the full ecosystem of what makes our programs and events happen.
