"Watercolors" from Your Kitchen

No paint? No problem! Experiment with Georgeanne Gaffney making watercolor pigments with items found in your kitchen! Use spices such as turmeric, green matcha tea, chili powder, curry, nutmeg, cinnamon and more! Plants such as blueberries, blackberries, beets and anything you can find to out and see what happens! Let Georgeanne show you how to paint a watercolor painting from an Adirondack landscape photo using liquids such as coffee, tea, red wine, spices…whatever you have on hand. So much fun, good for the whole family to join in!

Recommended Supplies:

  • Paper/watercolor paper
  • Different sized brushes
  • Kitchen spices and fruits, whatever you have - see above suggestions to try!
  • T-shirt, rag or paper towels
  • Water
  • Coffee/steeped tea/red wine
  • Reference image

Lake Placid Center for the Arts

The Lake Placid Center for the Arts is a year-round performing and visual Arts Facility.  Located in the Adirondack Park of Northern New York, the LPCA consistently presents arts of the highest caliber in music, dance and theatre performances, film exhibitions and visual arts presentations. 

In addition, the Arts Center provides special arts-in education programs, workshops and residencies for aspiring and renowned artists.

The Arts Center is the home of the Lake Placid School of Ballet, LPCA Children's Theatre, Community Theatre Players, as well as the Summer home of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta.
