Ball Jars 2-Night Online Class

Watercolors, Advanced Beginners and Up

Join us for this watercolor workshop as we explore working in layers, limited palette, paint application and texture for "Ball Jars". Paint along if you like or sit back and just watch. The video will be available for 2 weeks for you to replay and practice.

Please have the image sketched out in advance. You may also use my sketch for a reference for where to use your masking fluid. I will be demoing the masking technique at the beginning of the workshop.

What's on my palette

(This is my standard palette that I will use for all workshops.You do not have to use the colors that I do.)

Jaune Brilliant #1, Cad yellow, Cad orange, Cad Red, Perm Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Brown Madder, Yellow Ochre, Lavender, Cerulean, Cobalt Blue, Cobalt Turquoise Light, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian, Paynes Gray, Neutral Tint

Brushes - I will be using a large and small flat brushes

I will be using masking fluid for this tutorial

Paper-I will be using Arches 140lb Cold press for this painting and will be working on a 14x20format. Please paint whatever size you like.


  • Firm backing board
  • Masking tape
  • Water container
  • Sponge
  • Hair Dryer
  • Paper Towels
  • 3 spray bottles
  • Reference image printed out

The Lake Placid Center for the Arts is a year-round performing and visual Arts Facility.  Located in the Adirondack Park of Northern New York, the LPCA consistently presents arts of the highest caliber in music, dance and theatre performances, film exhibitions and visual arts presentations. 

In addition, the Arts Center provides special arts-in education programs, workshops and residencies for aspiring and renowned artists.

The Arts Center is the home of the Lake Placid School of Ballet, LPCA Children's Theatre, Community Theatre Players, as well as the Summer home of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta.
