The Gallery @ LPCA Partners with the Adirondack Quilters Guild

Lake Placid, NY: The Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA) is proud to present The Quilt Show, a collection of quilts from makers in the North Country, from January 3 through February 9, 2019. The show was curated in partnership with the Adirondack Quilters Guild. The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, January 3 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Gallery @ LPCA. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

Visitors to the gallery this January will be greeted by an abundance of eye-popping color. The Gallery @ LPCA will be arranged in vibrant fabric - quilted with care, skill and artistic flare. This exhibit showcases the extraordinary talents of area quilters with traditional quilts as well as original designs. Mary Ellen Henry, member and former President of the Adirondack Quilters Guild, reached out to more than a dozen quilters from across the North Country in putting together the exhibit. Many of the quilts were created by individuals, while some were created as a collaborative effort by a group of quilters.

Anya Villeneuve, co-curator and Assistant Program Director at the LPCA, revealed that there are a lot of stories behind the works on display. One piece was started several years ago but was finished just a few weeks ago. The title? Persistence Pays Off. While some of the quilts will be for sale, many are not because they hold such personal significance for the makers and their families.

All together, the pieces in this show collectively uphold the legacy of quilt making. Typically used for commemoration of social events, history, community and lineage, this show proves that quilting remains a relevant, conceptual and strategic art form for the cultural expressions of today.
