Experience the wonder of the holidays with this new version of the Nutcracker, featuring themes and motifs inspired by the Adirondacks. While keeping original choreography by Michela Bochetto, the show will also include new pieces by Ms. Rea-Fisher and Company Members of EMERGE125. The production will continue to invite professional dancers to perform in principal roles while providing the youth dancers a sneak peek into a professional dance environment.
About EMERGE125, formerly Elisa Monte Dance
Founded in 1981, EMERGE125 (formerly Elisa Monte Dance), bridges cultural barriers through the universal language of dance. The company’s work emphasizes three main objectives: CREATE with and for a corps of professional dancers; EDUCATE individuals in the art of movement and in appreciation of live dance performance; and COLLABORATE with distinguished artists across other disciplines to bring dance to new audiences and new platforms. Under this new leadership, the company has redefined our organizational identity while remaining true to our founding vision. The company had always wanted to be grounded in the vibrant artistic culture of Harlem; we’ve since realized this goal by establishing a thriving education program that operates throughout the neighborhood, forging deep creative partnerships with leading Harlem arts organizations, and devising community engagement activities that respond directly to local constituents’ core interests. At the same time, we have extended our reach beyond the city, establishing a new partnership with the Lake Placid School of Dance. Tiffany has also set the company apart in our prioritization of care for the whole artist: from our professional dancers to our students, each person is celebrated as both an individual and a vital contributor. Our company doesn’t see dancers as simply tools to bring choreography to life, but as artists in their own right and critical collaborators – a perspective that is a significant shift from the field’s traditionally strict view of a dancer’s role.
About Lake Placid School of Dance
LPSD has a long history of excellence in dance education, and we are honored to continue that tradition in partnership with EMERGE125, a NYC-based, internationally acclaimed dance company. This partnership was created with one idea in mind: to distinguish The Lake Placid School of Dance as a place that provides extraordinary training in dance while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere regardless of skill level. Our goal is to help those who are interested in dance fully connect with the art form by developing the artist within and preparing students for success both on and off the stage.
About North Country Ballet Ensemble
Situated on the shores of Lake Champlain and in the foothills of the Adirondacks, the NCBE was incorporated in 1986 under founding Artistic Director, Deborah Guibord-Stay, and Artistic Staff Bonnie Black, Alice Schonbek and Kathy Koester. The NCBE is the Adirondack Coast’s oldest non-profit ballet company. Since its inception, the Ensemble has become a regional ballet company, encompassing the geographical areas that stretch from just south of the Canadian border, west to Malone, Lake Placid and Keene Valley, and south to Westport. The organization was designed to develop a community of young people from the North Country, and to provide performing experience for student-dancers in the art of ballet and contemporary dance. The North Country Ballet Ensemble endeavors offer live concert dance performance in the North Country so that it is understood and appreciated as an art form. At the same time, it is the intent of the organization to provide a background in the classics and more modern-day ballets for young student dancers to enhance their dance education. Additionally, the NCBE’s mission includes outreach to underserved communities and populations, which might otherwise not see live (dance) performance.
