About The Kingdom Choir

The group’s performance of Stand By Me, seen by a global audience of over two billion, instantly catapulted the Choir to worldwide fame. Founded in 1994 by award-winning conductor Karen Gibson, the choir draws from various Christian traditions and is dedicated to creating a sound that reflects the community they share through their warm energy and enthusiastic performances. The Choir released their first full length album in 2018.

Karen Gibson is an award-winning gospel choir conductor who has conducted some of the most prestigious, large-scale choirs across the UK. The high standard of her work has taken her across Europe and further – Japan, Rwanda, Nigeria, Guyana, and the USA. Karen’s choirs are regular finalists or winners of choir competitions, including BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of The Year. After 11 years in IT and a further 7 in teaching, the positive impact of gospel music has led to her current vocation. The Kingdom Choir is one her many choirs that have spread the joy of the genre.

About Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir

The Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir (PSGC) was organized in 1991 by students and has constantly emphasized the breadth and depth of gospel music in order to expose both SUNY Plattsburgh and the North Country to this unique American genre. The choir fuses traditional gospel, urban gospel, contemporary Christian music, European harmonies, Caribbean, and Afrocentric rhythms. PSGC provides opportunities for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members to sing music from the gospel music traditions. The choir sings at a variety of settings including colleges, campus events, K-12 schools, churches, memorial services, weddings, and other community events. The choir has performed in Burlington, Albany, New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Little Rock/Stuttgart, Chicago, Memphis, Montreal, Toronto, Tokyo, St. Maarten, and Trinidad. The choir has worked with clinicians such as Dr. Raymond Wise, Dr. Anthony Leach, Stan Spottswood, and Ron Rucker of Japan. The choir has collaborated with Ray Vega, Darius Brooks, Sheila Ray Charles, and Lyle Lovett. In 2017, the choir performed with Daisy Jopling at the prestigious Lincoln Center. The choir has appeared on the WORD Network and Mountain Lake PBS.
