Open Division Schedule & Tuition

Open Division

For students ages 3 and up, our Open Division is the first building block of our dance education program. Classes are designed to allow children to explore movement through music, develop physical skills, channel energy and stimulate imagination and creativity. Dance training enhances cognitive learning skills such as memory and communication.   Through the execution of movement patterns, a child's visual perception and sequential learning skills are greatly strengthened, in turn assisting young brains to develop in the areas of reading and math.

For older students, the emphasis for each class is to learn good clean technique, improve strength and flexibility, and build a vocabulary of steps.

Children must be 3 by September 1 of the class season.

Pre-Primary Ballet: Ages 3 to 4.5. (MUST have turned 3 by September 1st) This class is an introduction to dance and movement. Rhythmic steps and basic ballet positions are introduced using imagery and music as creative tools for the development of confident movement. Sequential movement patterns, simple counting skills and spatial awareness are developed as dancers learn classroom etiquette and healthy group socialization.

Teen Ballet: Ages 13 and up. This one hour class is designed for teens who are new, or relatively new, to ballet. Students are taught basic ballet positions, terminology and vocabulary. The class begins with basic barre work and progresses to center floor exercises. Stretching and strengthening sequences are taught for home practice. Students interested in more intensive study may audition for the ABT Division on the advice of the instructor.

Tap I/KinderHop: Age 3.5 to 5. 30 minutes. Students experience tap and KinderHop - an age appropriate introduction to the ever popular style of hip hop. Classroom etiquette is emphasized, and children are introduced to dance vocabulary.

Tap II: Ages 6 to 8. In this introductory 45 minute class, dancers will learn basic tap steps with a focus on rhythm and musicality. Each class will include a warm-up, exercises to improve technique, and fun combinations that will allow the dancers to apply what they are learning while performing to upbeat, age-appropriate musical selections. Class will focus on clarity of the tap sound, balance, proper arm and body movements and the ability to change directions easily.

Teen Tap: Ages 12 and up. This more advanced one-hour class will emphasize the style of tap and rhythm, time steps progression, clarity and unique combinations and routines.

Jazz/Funk 1: Ages 6 to 9. This 45 minute class is designed for children that are new, or relatively new, to jazz and hip hop.
