Exploring Color: Color Theory

Online Class with Cynthia Rosen

Tuesday, Sept 21st, 5:00-7:00pm Eastern

Just in time for the Fall colors! Join Cynthia Rosen for the first in a series of four stand-alone classes exploring all aspects of COLOR to expand your overall skills set. These skills can be transfered to multiple mediums in your artistic arsenal.

From Cynthia:

For at least the next 4 classes, we will be focusing on color, thank you to (and based on) the suggestion of a workshop attendee. Not all 4 workshops need to be taken, as each one will present different color combinations and will teach a different aspect related to color theory, ultimately providing for a good understanding of warm and cool colors, how they mix and how they relate to values, etc. September 21st will kick off the unit.

The reference image below will be used. I have provided 4 views of the same scene in order to help people learn to see themselves as divergent thinkers. Each view focuses on different aspects of the scene. This paper is to be printed out and is basically to be viewed as a warm up for the workshop as well as a guide for painting.

Recommended Supplies:

Paints: For the first session on September 21st, attendees should have ready a palette of Ivory, Black, Vermillion, Yellow Ochre, and White. Cynthia will provide a super quick refresher on perspective and composition as we sketch the image onto our surface so we can then dive into our adaptation of the Zorn Palette.

Please keep this printout for the next workshop as well. The more familiar people become with an image, the more they will be free to explore and truly understand colors. Cynthia has chosen this image as it has perspective, a variety of shapes and values as well as sensitive color changes. It should take us far with a lot of lessons inherent in it.
