Class Description

Would you like to learn how to paint trees in a winter landscape? In this workshop, Ingrid will guide you through selecting reference images that are ideal for painting and teach you effective composition techniques to enhance your work. You’ll also discover how to paint snow using colors beyond just white and learn the process of creating an underpainting followed by layering to build up your finished piece. This workshop offers valuable tips and insights for artists looking to master winter landscapes.

Materials List

  • A reference photo you’d like to use.
  • Soft pastels
    • Light colors: different shades of light blues, pinks, yellows, and whites.
    • Dark colors: different shades of dark blues, browns, and dark green.
  • Apron
  • Paper towels
  • Easel
  • Masking tape
  • Pastel paper that can get wet (Uart)
  • Backing board to place your paper on

About the Instructor

Ingrid has exhibited her work in international and national group exhibitions throughout the country including New York, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Illinois, as well as a solo show, For the Love of Boats. Her work has been juried into the highly prestigious Pastel Society of America Enduring Brilliance exhibitions held at the National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York City. She has been a guest speaker for the National Association of Women Artists’ “Arts in Conversation” series. Ingrid teaches soft pastel painting to individuals and groups and has been a guest teacher at the New York State Art Teacher’s Summer Institute at The Great Camp Sagamore in Upstate NY. She is a dedicated high school visual arts teacher at Northwood School and her work is currently represented at Gallery 46 in Lake Placid, NY. Ingrid lives with her family in Lake Placid, NY and finds inspiration for her landscape paintings from the beautiful natural environment of the Adirondacks.
