Class Description

This class welcomes newcomers to the art of watercolor landscapes. Each week, students will create a new complete piece, starting with the very basics and working up to live, outdoor painting. This class will cover a variety of techniques and build skills students can enjoy for the rest of their lives!

Week 1

The first class will cover basic watercolor techniques and follow a live demonstration on creating quick, simple, and effective watercolor landscapes.

Week 2

Will instruct students on how to paint landscapes from a photo reference, building observational skills and color theory.

Week 3

Will follow up on the previous week’s photo reference work by introducing architecture and urban landscapes, introducing the basics of perspective and building on observational skills.

Week 4

Students will be brought outside to paint scenes of the local landscape, incorporating all of the lessons and skills learned so far.

About the Instructor

Kilian Croghan is a local artist living in Peru, New York. He received a BFA from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2023 with a focus in Drawing, Painting, and Illustration, and has since shown work in galleries across the Adirondacks. In addition to his artwork, Kilian is a sales associate for Gallery 46 and an instructor at Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
