An ANTIQUE APPRAISAL DAY, featuring expert appraisers from nationally acclaimed SKINNER Inc. of Boston who are frequently featured on PBS’s “ANTIQUES ROAD SHOW”, will be held on Saturday, September 11 from 10 to 4 pm at the Lake Placid Horseshow grounds pavilion, Route 73 opposite the Olympic Ski Jump complex. The event is presented by the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, and sponsored by NBT Bank’s Trust and Investment Division.
The event is open to the public, so start looking for that old teapot, painting or necklace and find out what it’s worth. Lunch and refreshments, catered by CrossRoads, will be available. Several “workshop displays” are planned. There is no charge for admission to the event.
SKINNER Inc. is a leading full-service auctioneer and appraiser of antiques and fine art. Participating in Lake Placid will be Stephen Fletcher, a partner and Executive VP who’s regarded as one of the nation’s foremost experts on Early American Furniture; Stuart Whitehurst who was instrumental in establishing Skinner as a leading source for all manner of historical documents, including books, manuscripts, letters, and autographs; Kerry Shrives – a specialist in English, Continental and Victorian furniture and decorative arts as well as fine Judaica, and Gloria Lieberman – Director of Skinner’s Fine Jewelry department and one of the nation’s renowned experts on antique jewelry. Most of these appraisers are general appraisers in addition to their specialty.
The appraisers will evaluate and offer verbal value ranges for antiques, artifacts, and heirlooms. Appraisals cost $15 per item or $40 for a maximum of three items. Photographs may be used for large items of furniture, and single pieces may represent sets of china or collections. Please exclude coins, stamps, and musical instruments.
